Inflicting Change

A Field Guide

The title is a wink. Nobody sets out to inflict anything. But anyone who has tried to change how a large organization works knows the feeling: the steering committee approved the deck, the vendor demo promised the moon, and the people who have to live with the result never asked for any of it. Change at that scale happens because a team shows up every day and makes it happen, sometimes over the objections of the people who asked for it. Approval is where it starts, not where it ends.

Agents Decide, Tools Do, Gates Prove

A Field Guide to Building Agentic Applications

Every few weeks the focus changes: a new model, a new framework, a new acronym. Teams stop mid-build to rebuild their demos. The demos get better every cycle. The production numbers stay where they were. Then somebody asks the question that matters: how do you know?

About the author

Walter Meyer spent six years in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power Program, where he learned two things: how to operate complex systems under pressure, and that blindly following orders was not his strongest skill. He has been applying both lessons since, at startups, at the Big 4, and inside large organizations trying to change.

Since then, his work has been enterprise transformation, leading business strategy, innovation, and R&D. He took a technology startup to profitability and through its acquisition, and held senior roles at two creative digital consultancies. Today he builds agentic systems.

He is the author of Inflicting Change, a field guide to getting stalled programs moving, and Agents Decide, Tools Do, Gates Prove, a field guide to building agentic applications that can answer "how do you know?"
